Gertrude Aba Eyifa-Dzidzienyo and Stefanie Michels talk about the urgence of material restitution of objects from Western museums to Ghana as a starting point in a longer conversation about the past and its significance for the present.

Conceived as a workshop, it presents conversations in an ongoing debate with scholars, curators, activists and others across space.

Dr. Gertrude Aba Eyifa-Dzidzienyo works at the Department of Archeology and Heritage Studies at the University of Ghana. She specializes in restitution and repatriation issues, as well as education and accessibility in Ghana.

PD Dr. Stefanie Michels is a historian with an interest in German colonial history taken from the angle of African history.

They will co-convene an international Fellow Group on Restitution at the Maria Sibylla Merian Institute for Advanced Studies in Africa at the University of Ghana from September to December 2021.
